We recently had the house painted (pics coming soon) and my FAVORITE part is the door. I picked a beautiful persimmon color and I absolutely love it. Normally, I have such a hard time picking out paint colors, so I was thrilled it worked without having to sample multiple colors to find the right one. I also hinted at a craft project in a previous post I was starting on, and here is the finished product! It was my front door decoration!
Instead of making a wreath, which was a little too intimidating and expensive for me, I painted a "B" in the house color and then added some pearlized paint on top, and then used my especiality of crafting - a hot glue gun! I am quite pleased with the finished product. It really was so simple too - just picked out a hydrangea flower, and some green berry looking sprays that I liked, tore them apart, and then glued the sections on in the places I liked them best. It was done in an hour (not including the painting part which had to dry of course). I like the unique factor that most doors don't have an initial but rather a traditional wreath, and I think it turned out pretty too! The light color on the persimmon door is a strong contrast, and it being close to the house-color still makes it seem tied-in too. Hope you enjoy as much as I do, and now you can easily recognize my house if you are ever coming by!
where did you find the letter at? I am lookign to make something similar but can't find the letter!
ReplyDeleteI found mine at Hobby Lobby. It was not with the regular craft letters but near the decorative items like picture frames (not the framing section). They are gold in color. I painted mine white and added a blue ribbon to hang it. I really like the addition of the flowers to the letter shown here.
ReplyDeleteHere's a picture of mine (not the best picture but you get the idea). http://i47.tinypic.com/25jje6x.jpg
what paint color is the door?
ReplyDeleteI am trying to figure out what to do with two doors that have a glass front. This is a great idea. Someone gave us our "H" and now I think I can paint it. It is black now but I have to figure out which color would be best to paint.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and thank you for sharing it!
A personalized front door is simply swell! Though, I would love to see the photo of the actual door. The way you described it in your blog was pretty exciting. =D I would suggest, though, modifying the tone of the color (Persimmon) to something different from the color of your house. Doing so will make the color of your door pop-out from afar.

I'm with you, Marla. While repainting a door is fun, you should never forget to coordinate it with the color scheme of the house. This is to avoid the confusion that different colors can cause the eyes and to establish a sense of unity to a space.

Love this idea!! Just made a letter "C" like this for the front door of the new home we just bought. It's a little smaller than your "B" but I think it turned out great! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteIs the flower fresh or faux? Looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to think of something for the front door other than a wreath. I love your idea. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute and simple. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI want the DOOR!! Does she still blog?
ReplyDeleteI love the color of your door and the letter decoration is absolutely beautiful against that color, the pearl paint worked to make the letter shine and really accentuates your entry.
ReplyDeleteI am very crafty, I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteYour door color and the B.
I will have to copy you =)
Thanks for the great idea. Now I will hunt for the perfect size and shape letter for my door.
